About Second Chance Gardening

Second Chance Gardening is operated by Joseph, a Surrey-based horticulturist with a deep love for plants and a mission to give every plant a second chance at thriving. Whether it is a houseplant that has been overwatered, a shrub that has outgrown its spot, or a tree that needs relocating, Joseph assesses each situation individually and creates a plan that works for both the plant and the property owner. His approach is grounded in sustainable, eco-friendly practices that benefit the environment while restoring green spaces to their full potential.

With over 500 plants successfully rehomed and rehabilitated, and a 90 percent customer satisfaction rate, Second Chance Gardening has built a reputation for reliable, personal service across the Lower Mainland. You can read more about Joseph’s background and philosophy on the about page on the Second Chance Gardening website.

Joseph works with Vancouver homeowners to rescue overgrown houseplants, propagate new growth, and maintain gardens throughout the community, from Haney to Pitt Meadows. Joseph takes on a selective number of projects at any one time to ensure each plant and each client receives the full attention they deserve.

Our Services

Plant Rehabilitation: Joseph begins every rehabilitation by spending time with the plant, observing its condition and understanding its history. He then adjusts light exposure, modifies watering routines, treats any pest issues, and recommends soil amendments as needed. The goal is always to bring a struggling plant back to vigorous health. Read about the full plant rehabilitation approach on the Second Chance Gardening website.

Plant Rehoming: Sometimes a plant has simply outgrown its environment, and rather than letting it struggle, Joseph works to match it with a new home where it can genuinely flourish. A citrus tree that has outgrown its container might move to a south-facing garden bed, while a shade-loving fern might find its forever spot under a covered patio. The rehoming service page explains the process in detail.

Propagation: Using stem cuttings, division, and layering, Joseph creates new plants from existing stock. This is an affordable way to expand a garden, replace plants that have died, or share successful specimens with friends and neighbours. The propagation service page covers the full range of techniques used.

Garden Maintenance: Joseph also offers seasonal garden maintenance including lawn care, shrub trimming, weeding, mulching, and winter plant protection. He tailors each maintenance plan to the specific needs of the property, whether it is a small urban lot or a larger suburban garden. Full details are available on the gardening and maintenance service page.
