After enough years in this city, we have learned that the patios us locals actually return to are not the ones with the loudest social media. They are the ones with the right combination of food, drink, neighbourhood, and space to settle in for a few hours. Vancouver runs on outdoor seating from late spring through early fall, and the right patio can make a Tuesday afternoon feel like a small holiday.
heated and all season patios

The patios worth booking are the ones that work year-round, not just on the perfect summer Saturdays.. Right now, Havana on Commercial Drive stands out with a year-round covered patio that is heated and protected from the elements, which means a long Latin-Pacific Northwest lunch in the rain feels exactly as good as a sunny afternoon spritz. Meanwhile, Provence Marinaside on the False Creek seawall in Yaletown runs its waterfront patio year-round with clear panels, heaters, and blankets, so you can watch the boats from your table without losing the patio feel. Anh and Chi on Main Street rounds out the all-season options with string lights, heat lamps, and a small garden that keeps the streetside patio open well past the usual patio months.
| Restaurant | Heating and Coverage |
|---|---|
| Havana, 1212 Commercial Drive | Year-round covered front patio, heated, protected from rain |
| Provence Marinaside, 1177 Marinaside Crescent (Yaletown) | Waterfront patio with clear panel enclosure, heaters, blankets |
| Anh and Chi, 3388 Main Street (Mount Pleasant) | Streetside patio with heat lamps, string lights, small garden |
| Tap and Barrel Bridges, 1696 Duranleau Street (Granville Island) | Lower waterfront patio plus heated upper balcony, year-round |
brewery patios and craft beer
Vancouver brewery patios have a different energy from restaurant patios. The beer is made on site, the space tends toward something genuine rather than designed, and your dog is almost always welcome. Mount Pleasant carries the highest concentration, with three of our favourites within walking distance of each other on Main Street and 8th. East Van has its own brewery district along Powell Street, which is where Andina Brewing has been bringing Colombian-inspired beers since 2017.
| Brewery | What Makes It Special |
|---|---|
| Brassneck Brewery, 2148 Main St (Mount Pleasant) | Small outdoor patio, rotating tap list, communal tables, dog friendly, sister snacks from The Magnet |
| Main Street Brewing, 261 E 7th Ave (Mount Pleasant) | Seasonal patio behind a 1913 heritage industrial building, full food menu, live music, dog friendly |
| 33 Acres Brewing, 15 W 8th Ave (Mount Pleasant) | Bright modern tasting room, popular summer patio and street seating, weekend brunch waffles, family-owned since 2013 |
| Andina Brewing, 1507 Powell St (East Vancouver) | Colombian-inspired beers from the Amaya brothers, bright yellow building in the Powell Street brewery district, arepas and ceviche on the food menu |
Waterfront patio dining

There is something about Vancouver’s Waterfront patio scene that sets it apart from inland dining. The False Creek seawall and Granville Island both put you a few steps from the water with downtown as a backdrop. Right now, Tap and Barrel Bridges on the western tip of Granville Island stands out as the obvious call. The two-storey building has a lower waterfront patio and a heated upper balcony, 32 BC craft beer taps, 16 BC wines by the glass, and a view across False Creek that is one of the better ones in the city without being on a float plane. Meanwhile, Provence Marinaside in Yaletown opens directly onto the False Creek marina and seawall, with French Provençal seafood and an award-winning wine list. The aquabus from Yaletown to Granville Island connects both spots in about five minutes, which makes a two-stop afternoon easy.
Local favourite patios
Some patios earn their place on a different axis than the view. They have the food, the drinks, and the local feel that turns a quick visit into a longer one. The Cascade Room on Main Street has been part of Mount Pleasant since 2007 and is one of the few places on this stretch where the cocktail program gets as much attention as the food, with a small streetside patio that catches the afternoon light before the 4 p.m. dinner crowd lands. Just east of there, Havana on Commercial Drive has been a Drive institution for years, with happy hour running 3 to 5 p.m. and again from 9 p.m. to close Sunday through Thursday. Both work for a long afternoon if you settle in early.

Family-Friendly Patios
Not every patio is set up for kids and dogs, but the ones that are tend to be the ones locals trust for a relaxed afternoon without the usual restaurant tension. Anh and Chi on Main Street handles families about as well as any restaurant in Mount Pleasant. The space is open and bright, the menu has Vietnamese dishes most kids will eat without negotiation, and the staff are unfussed about strollers and kid noise. Meanwhile, Provence Marinaside in Yaletown gives kids something to focus on with the marina view while the adults work through the wine list. Tap and Barrel Bridges rounds out the family-friendly options with a full kids menu and gluten-friendly and plant-based options that make group dining easier when preferences are mixed.

tucked away patios

The patios that stick with locals are often the ones off the main streets, where the crowd thins out and the afternoon can actually stretch without anyone turning tables. Right now, Strange Fellows Brewing at 1345 Clark Drive in East Vancouver leads this category. The brewery is built into a warehouse in an industrial corner that visitors do not stumble into by accident, and that is part of the appeal. The outdoor seating is unfussy, the brewers experiment more than most spots in the city with sours and barrel-aged beers, and there is no reservation system. Arrive early on a sunny weekend because seating fills up, but the rotation of beers on tap is worth the trip.
questions we hear about Vancouver patios
Which Vancouver patios are best for children?
Anh and Chi on Main Street and Provence Marinaside in Yaletown both handle kids well and do not make parents feel like they are causing a problem by existing. Tap and Barrel Bridges on Granville Island also runs a full kids menu and is one of the easiest patios for families. Booking ahead is worth doing on weekends at any of these places, since sunny days draw crowds that fill tables quickly.
Can I bring my dog to most Vancouver brewery patios?
Most brewery patios in Vancouver are dog friendly, particularly the ones with outdoor space that is not fully enclosed. Brassneck, Main Street Brewing, 33 Acres, Andina, and Strange Fellows all welcome dogs. It is worth checking ahead for any specific policies, particularly during peak hours when outdoor space is at a premium.
What is the best time to go to a popular patio without a reservation?
Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on weekdays is the easiest window to find a table without booking ahead. On weekends, Saturday before noon and Sunday before 11 a.m. tend to have more availability. Sunny weekdays are the exception since good weather sends everyone at once. Havana and Provence fill faster than the brewery patios, which tend to have more capacity in their outdoor spaces.
